Twitter and the shaping of a political landscape:
Everyone knows twitter and mostly everyone uses it. Perhaps those who are younger are not familiar with it, because most young people shifted towards Instagram in the last years and most recently tik tok. However Twitter is being going on solid and without many changes as platforms in is it decade of usage.
Twitter works as a microblogging site, in which user may post content, ideas and short messages that once started as 140 characters long, but now offer 280 in a single message, and other extension possibilities like adding threads of messages, audio, image and video files. But the concept stays the same, to share the world short and fast messages. This forces you to keep it brief.
Twitter presents posts in chronological order, it allows you to select the users you want to follow, and however, nowadays you can also see what people you follow like or follow as well. You can like content, re-tweet what somebody else posted, comment a post, reply a post, and access links to other extended sites or contents from a twit.
Twitter is highly controversial in the sense that is not entirely clear if it helps freedom of expression or constrict it. It is my personal opinion that it reshapes it, while twitter is working hard to reduce the spread of fake news, it is clear that many false facts are shared trough it. It also has become a political tool for leaders to express their opinion bluntly, without any type of consideration or filter. Which often makes room for conflict and divisiveness.
